When choosing the right fan for your space you will want to make sure you pick a fan that has the correct rating for the conditions it will be placed as well as the correct size for the area it will be installed in.

More than likely that fan is an indoor fan rated for Dry conditions and it was placed outdoors. Damp/wet rated just means that it can withstand the weather conditions with the rust resistant motor and hardware as well as moisture resistant blades. For indoor use, besides bathrooms, you will want to use a dry rated fan. When choosing the right size fan for a room you do not want a fan that is too big that it overwhelms the room but you also don’t want a fan that is too small that it doesn’t move air. For the fan to be the most efficient, you will want to install it in the middle of your room about 8 feet above the floor. You can use a down rod to adjust the height and a ceiling slope adapter for those who have slopped ceilings. The most common size ceiling fan for family rooms and large bedrooms is the 52” fan, though the size of the fan is personal preference, it also is key to providing the most airflow.
